While some furnishings show signs of wear, particularly the carpets, subtle touches like a copy of the 1933 novel Lost Horizon—the inspiration behind the Shangri-La name—in each bedside drawer add charm.

Guests of the Horizon Club enjoy access to an raised lounge on the 11th floor, along with perks such as airport meet-and-greet service and private check-in. The lounge provides breakfast, evening cocktails, and canapés, plus meeting rooms and laundry pressing. Though the décor feels dated and the low sofas are awkward for casual meetings, the space offers sweeping views of the jungle.
Dining options include China Kitchen, which recently relaunched with Sichuan cuisine, and Kad Kafe, an all-day international buffet with live cooking stations. The breakfast spread is extensive, and the hotel’s free-form pool, the largest in the city, is surrounded by a yoga pavilion and a spa featuring nine private treatment villas. A sheltered Jacuzzi pool and smaller children’s pool are also available, along with a fully-equipped gym offering free fitness classes.

The signature Chi, The Spa at Shangri-La features nine treatment “rooms”, each one a mini villa, with tranquil courtyards and walkways. The hotel is also currently working on a vegetable garden, cultivating basil, chilli, eggplant, papaya, and lemongrass to serve fresh, local ingredients in the restaurants.

Room amenities include international outlets and USB ports, though bedside charging stations are poorly placed and require an adaptor. Room service prices align with local standards, but television film channels are noticeably grainy. Bathrooms feature separate baths and rain showers, with premium L’Occitane toiletries that are difficult to dispense due to bottle design.
