The Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) has named Courtney‑Diana Walker as its new program officer for sustainable tourism.
Based in Barbados, Walker officially began her role on Sept. 1. Her primary task is to support Narendra Ramgulam, the CTO’s deputy director of sustainable tourism, in executing core initiatives. This move aims to boost the body’s capacity to advance sustainable and regenerative tourism projects throughout the region.
The hiring aligns directly with the CTO Reimagine Plan 2025–2027. Under this framework, sustainable and regenerative tourism is one of five main strategic pillars. The organization seeks to improve long‑term resilience and competitiveness while ensuring tangible benefits for local people and communities.
Regional Experience and Academic Focus
Walker brings a multidisciplinary background. Her expertise spans sustainable tourism, cultural development, and strategic communications. She has worked in public, private, and institutional settings, giving her a broad view of the region’s tourism sector.
Her academic credentials are substantial. She holds a master’s degree in Cultural Studies from The University of the West Indies (UWI) and is completing a Master of Science in Tourism and Sports Management at UWI Cave Hill. Her research often focuses on creative industries and destination development, with particular interest in tourism’s economic and social impact.
The appointment signals a shift toward more structured regional planning for travelers and local business owners. Rather than isolated national strategies, the CTO is moving toward a unified approach that balances environmental health with economic growth.
